As we head towards Jamaica’s 60th anniversary in 2022 we continue to acknowledge everything our beautiful country has to offer.

This time in the form of beauty and culture as we highlight our newest Miss Universe. Despite not making the top 16 at the 70th Miss Universe pageant, Daena Soares represented our nation very well.

Twenty two year old Daena Soares is a graduate of the University of the West Indies and was crowned in early November 2021. She said she acted on the advice of her father to enter the competition.

Daena represented as Miss Icon Megastore and was crowned by Miqueal-Symone Williams who is Miss Universe Jamaica 2020. She took home two sectional prizes for Most Photogenic and the Congeniality Award. The first runner-up spot went to Trishanie Weller, Miss HTG Engineering Consultants Limited, and Lauren Less, Miss Donna’s Caribbean Restaurant, the second runner-up.

Soares a native of St Elizabeth earned a bachelor of basic medical sciences from The University of the West Indies. Quite an academic feat. She is a proud past student of Hampton Girls School.

Daena vows to use the platform to empower women and encourages girls to join pageants as it is an amazing opportunity geared towards growth and development. She has a direct and defined plan to target teenage pregnancy in Jamaica as she sees that as a rampant vice that needs to be addressed.

We salute Daena as one of our ambassadors and wish her all the best in her plans as we forge towards Jamaica’s 60th anniversary, and beyond.
