As we come to the end of 2021 a lot of buzz surrounds who are the top Spotify streamers for the year.
Everyone wants to find out which Jamaican acts boast the best numbers amongst themselves.

ChartMasters however just recently compiled a list of the 1000 most streamed artists of all time and we think that it is impressive four Jamaicans are included.

With the influence and popularity that Reggae has on the globe, one might say that number is too low but we have to acknowledge that Reggae does not cover as much of the global population as other genres.

Before we get into the Jamaican acts, let us look at the top 10 to gain some perspective of this list.

This may come as no surprise that Drake is the most streamed artist of all time. Considering his apparent love for the island, we have to ask readers should we adopt Drake as a Jamaican? Hmmm. Imagine Jamaica holding the number one spot on the list by means of adoption. Drake holds the number one spot with over 43 billion streams accrued from 249 tracks.

Coming in second is Ed Sheeran with 32 billion streams from 208 tracks. There is a Ed Sheeran reference to popular dancehall artist Ishawna but that might not be enough to consider him Jamaican.

The rest of the top ten comprises the following artists which fall within the 20 billion stream range: Bad Bunny, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Justin Beiber, Post Malone, Eminem, Taylor Swift and J Balvin.

Now lets get to the Jamaican acts. Drum roll.

Working our way up, at number 615 is OMI who has 1.7 billion streams from 43 songs. most of the streams came from his mega chart topping track Cheerleader.

At 566 in the chart we have Mr Boombastic. Shaggy holds this spot with 1.9 billion streams from 409 songs.

Further up the list at the 306th spot we have Sean Paul. The “Gimme the Light” artist summed up 3.3 billion streams from 373 songs.

By this time it might not come as a surprise that the top spot owned by a Jamaican is not Vybz Kartel, or Shenseea or Skillibeng. This spot belongs to none other than Bob Marley and the Wailers at number 117.

584 songs account for 6.4 billion streams.

We think it is commendable that four Jamaicans made this list considering the marketing power and the vast population exposure of the other genres. Feel free to give your thoughts on these musical accomplishments. Do you think this is enough and what can be done to achieve more.
