The Government will introduce a new bedside registration application next year to instantly capture information about childbirth.
Hon. Floyd Green during his presentation of the 2022/23 Sectoral Debate to the House of Representatives, May 24,He mentioned that the app was being developed under the National Identification System project (NIDS), in collaboration with the Registrar General’s Department [RGD].
“We have 60 tablets that were purpose-built and purchased which we will distribute to our registration officers. Our registration officers will now be able to update the birth certificate information in real-time, Mr. Green stated.
He explained how the information is uploaded to the RGD’s system automatically after it has been entered at the mother’s side.
The Minister stated, “So, we are going… is that mothers will be able leave hospitals or birth centers with verifiable… electronically copied copies of their children’s birth certificates by next year.”
Mr. Green noted that there has been an increase of children being named as soon as the bedside registration program was introduced and provided a free first birth certificate.
“We are capturing… 99 percent of the births, but want to take it a step further. He said that NIDS is giving the bedside registration program a makeover.
NIDS is currently being implemented by Office of the Prime Minister. It is designed to provide a secure and comprehensive structure that allows for the collection and storage identity information.
